While you can certainly stick with just food for your dogs (as long as they are getting all of their nutrition), just like us, our dogs love treats every once in a while. As Leslie Kessinger, co-owner of Three Dog Bakery says “though selecting the right chews and treats for dogs can be a really personal choice. Some things that you need to take into consideration are your dog’s age, weight, and any medical concerns.”
Just like us, dogs can have varying diets in which they have to be careful of some things. Some dogs have severe allergies, some need to stay away from high protein, some need to watch the fat content, some dogs are just really picky. Whatever your dog’s needs, Three Dog Bakery has a wide selection of treats that you can choose from, and they can help you pick the right one.
Some of their best treats are from their own brand, Three Dog Bakery brand jerky treats. They come in strips but are very soft and break into pieces very easily. Leslie says she “actually used it as a training treat for my puppy because I could break off however much I needed.” They are also grain free and include veggies and fruit as well so they are nice for sensitive tummies. They are also great treats for senior dogs because they are so soft and gentle on teeth.
Another great treat for your dog is Bark Pops. These are super low calorie crunchy treats that mimic the idea of a cheeto but obviously tailored to a dog and much healthier. Leslie loves them because they are a great size to stuff in a treat dispensing toy, and you can give your dog several without any guilt about calorie count. She says they “sound like they’re eating popcorn which is hilarious.”
One final treat that she absolutely loves for her dogs is the Sam’s Yams Sweet Potato treats. They are pure dehydrated sweet potato and are wonderful for dogs with allergies, digestive issues, or even medical issues. They come in a small shape that looks like a French fry or in varying sizes of slabs. The largest size actually acts like a dental chew because it takes some time for dogs to chew through them.
