At the request of District Attorney General Jennings Jones, TBI Special Agents are investigating the circumstances that led to a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred Friday night around 8 p.m. in the 100 block of Chestnut Street in Smyrna.

Deceased Identified

Preliminary information indicates officers with the Smyrna Police Department responded to a domestic disturbance call at this address. A male individual at the home was reported to have fired a weapon inside the home, and another resident was barricaded inside another room. Reports from the scene indicate that when the officer entered the home, the male subject fired at the officer. The officer fired at the man, striking him. That individual was transported to a local hospital, where he has been pronounced deceased. The identity of this man is being withheld until relatives have been notified. No officers were injured.

This remains an active and ongoing investigation, as TBI Special Agents continue to work to gather any and all relevant interviews and evidence. As with any case, TBI’s investigative findings will be shared with the District Attorney General throughout the process for his review.

As is policy, the TBI does not identify the officers involved in these types of incidents and instead refers questions of that nature to the respective department.
