Middle Tennessee quarterback Brent Stockstill has proven what he can do on the football field and in the classroom but he also excels in the community.
People have taken notice of the record-setting signal-caller’s contributions to community and youth during his free time at Middle Tennessee.
Stockstill, the son of Rick and Sara Stockstill, has been named a nominee for the 2016 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, the most esteemed off-the-field honor in college football. The Allstate AFCA Good Works Team has recognized college football players from across the country who exemplifies a superior commitment to community service and volunteerism.
“It is a tremendous honor to be nominated for such a prestigious award,” Stockstill said. “I enjoy working with children, giving back to the community and trying to make a difference in any way I can. I am appreciative to be recognized.”
Stockstill is involved with charitable organizations and service groups, while also maintaining a strong academic standing.
The sophomore from Murfreesboro, is active in several community efforts, including working with Special Olympics, Special Kids, reading to children in local elementary schools, as well as charitable efforts throughout the year.
Stockstill is one of seven C-USA players nominated for the award. The select group of student-athletes nominated for this award by their respective colleges and universities are able to balance academics and athletics while remaining committed to helping others and bettering their communities.
Stockstill was presented the Terry Whiteside Award for excellence in academics, football, strength training, community service and campus activities in April, 2016. He is on the 2016 Davey O’Brien Watch List after earning freshman All-American honors a year ago.
For 25 years, the players selected have carried on the award’s mission by demonstrating that ‘good works’ extend beyond the football field. This year’s nominees uphold impressive service resumes detailing inspiring stories of servitude and the exceptional ability to balance academics with athletics, while donating their limited free time and energy to helping others.

With winning records and championships on the line each season, off-the-field service contributions can go overlooked. The Allstate AFCA Good Works Team pays tribute to these stories of good and the student-athletes who have dedicated countless hours towards helping others. From donating bone marrow to save a stranger’s life, to helping build a school in a rural village overseas, the players nominated to the 25th anniversary team have demonstrated a unique commitment to improving their communities.
“The Allstate AFCA Good Works Team has been one of the most prestigious off-the-field awards in college football for the past 25 years,” AFCA Executive Director Todd Berry said. “It is with great pride that we partner with Allstate to highlight some of the best student-athletes in the country who not only excel on the field, but off of it as well.”
