Middle Tennessee quarterback Brent Stockstill has been named the Tennessee Sports Writers Association (TSWA) Offensive Player of the Week after his record-breaking performance in the Blue Raiders’ 55-0 win against Alabama A&M Saturday.

The redshirt sophomore quarterback put together a remarkable game’s worth of statistics in just a half as Middle Tennessee roared to a 45-0 score at intermission. Playing just the first half, Stockstill completed 30-of-36 passes for 329 yards and five touchdowns.

“I am very honored and appreciative to receive this honor,” Stockstill said. “There are so many great players across the state of Tennessee so to be recognized by this organization means a lot.”

Stockstill opened the game with 22 consecutive completions, setting a school record and coming just four shy of the NCAA single-game record of 26. It marked the ninth 300-yard passing game of Stockstill’s career and the five touchdowns tied a career-high and matched the second-best mark in school history.

“It was a great way for our team to open the football season,” Stockstill said. “I have to give all of the credit to the entire offense. Our offensive line blocked well and gave me great protection. The receivers ran great routes and made catches, and the tailbacks also did a good job in the blocking and running game. It was a complete team win.”

The recipient is selected from all players among all divisions of college football in Tennessee each week. The TSWA awards an offensive and defensive player weekly during the football season.

Middle Tennessee will play at Vanderbilt Saturday at 3 p.m.
