Stan Lee the Writer of Marvel Comics Has Died

Stan Lee, writer, publisher, editor of Marvel Comics has died at the age of 95 reported the Hollywood Reporter.  Lee died early Monday morning at Cedar-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

Lee created or co-created superheroes brought to life on pages such as Black Panther, Spider-Man, the X-Men, the Mighty Thor, Iron Man, the Fantastic Four, the Incredible Hulk, Daredevil, and Ant Man.  Along with the help of Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, and others, Lee made Marvel Comics the number one publisher of comic books.

Lee was raised in Washington Heights and graduated from DeWitt Clinton High School. At the age of 17, Lee took at job Timely Comics. Two years later, he wrote Captain America No. 3, a two-page story titled “The Traitor’s Revenge!” that was used as text filler to qualify the company for the inexpensive magazine mailing rate. His given name was Stanley Martin Lieber but he used the pen name Stan Lee.

An autobiography was published back in 2002 titled Excelsior! The Amazing Life of Stan Lee.
