Independence’s Troy Henderson scored a 6-yard touchdown run with 2:48 left, helping lift the Eagles to a 14-13 TSSAA first-round playoff win over Smyrna on Friday.
Weston Landry’s point-after gave Independence its first lead of the second half, helping the Eagles advance to play at Ravenwood next week.
Smyrna extended its lead to 13-7 on Jose Baez’s 30-yard field goal with 1:12 left in the third quarter.
The Eagles’ Nathan Cisco found Kendrell Scurry with a 6-yard throw, with Landry’s point-after providing a 7-0 lead with 9:13 let in the first quarter.
But Smyrna’s Alex Bannister hit Trae Brimm with a 43-yard pass, and Jose Baeza’s point-after tied the game.
A 37-yard Baeza field goal gave Smyrna a 10-7 halftime lead.
