Update on Current Smyrna Road Projects

Smyrna Public Works Department is working on several road projects around town, including additional lanes on StoneCrest Boulevard and intersection improvements at Weakley Lane/Swan Drive. Read more for other road project updates.

Road Project Updates

Turn Lane Expansion on Stonecrest Blvd at Sam Ridley Pkwy
The project includes the addition of 3 lanes on Stonecrest Blvd. The project has been awarded and is currently under construction.

Weakley Lane Improvements at Swan Drive
Project is approved and funding allocated from FHWA, TDOT, and Town of Smyrna. Utility relocations are underway in preparation for construction work. Currently this project is being bid for construction.

Intelligent Traffic System Phases 1 and 2
Project is approved and funding allocated from FHWA, TDOT, and Town of Smyrna to link traffic lights along Sam Ridley, Nissan Drive, parts of Enon Springs, parts of Rock Springs, and parts of Lowry Street to a central Traffic Operations Center at Town Hall. Utility relocations are complete and we are awaiting notice to proceed to construction from TDOT.

Intelligent Traffic System Phases 3, 4 and 5 
Project is approved and funding allocated from FHWA and TDOT to link traffic lights along Lee Victory, Almaville Road, Old Nashville Highway, parts of Enon Springs, and parts of Lowry Street to a central Traffic Operations Center at Town Hall to be constructed under Phases 1 and 2. Currently we are working on the engineering drawings.

Enon Springs Road West Extension
The Town of Smyrna is providing funding to connect Enon Springs at Old Nashville Highway to Rocky Fork at the bridge over I-24. The project has been awarded and construction will commence January 2019.

Potomac Place Extension
The Town of Smyrna is funding the extension of Potomac Place to Chaney Road and will be moving the traffic signal at Chaney to Potomac to enhance traffic flow in this area. The project has been awarded and construction will commence January 2019.

Sam Ridley Parkway Road Widening
Project is approved and funding allocated from TDOT, FHWA, and the Town to widen Sam Ridley Parkway to 3 lanes in each direction from I-24 to Old Nashville Highway. Currently we are awaiting notice to proceed to construction from TDOT.

Nissan Drive at Sgt. Asbury Hawn Way
This project is complete.

New Traffic Signal at Old Jefferson Pike and North Lowry Street 
At the request of the Town, TDOT has conducted a safety analysis of the intersection of Old Jefferson Pike and North Lowry Street. Based on the results of the analysis, TDOT will be installing a new traffic light at this intersection. Currently they are allocating funds to start the project.

New Traffic Signal at Stonecrest & Cedar Grove 
Project on hold to gauge effectiveness of Stonecrest turn lane expansion.

Repaving
Evaluating milling and resurfacing projects for fiscal year 2019-2020.

Improvements to Exits 66 & 70 from I-24
Preliminary redesign of ramps and intersections by TDOT.

Interchange at I-24/Rocky Fork Road
Awaiting funding and approval from FHWA.
