Bulldogs Travel to Siegel Nation

The Smyrna Bulldogs loaded up the buses and headed south to Murfreesboro last night to take on the Siegel Stars. The Stars picked up their first win of the season last week when they played the roll of underdogs to Cookeville, wining 19 to zero. The Stars would reprise their roles again this week when they took on Smyrna. The Bulldogs were entering their second game of the season without standout running back, Casey Perkins, who was lost for the season in a game to Independence. No Perkins, no problem.

Smyrna Has its Own Star

Sophomore running back, and replacement for Perkins, Blake Watkins, sat out to make Bulldog fans forgot about his former back field mate on the night. The young back would tote the rock for over a hundred yards, tearing off long run after long run throughout the game. At points it appeared every time Watkins touched the ball, he scored. The Bulldogs would go into half looking to run away with the game, up 28-10.

In the second half Watkins showed his talents weren’t restricted to just carrying the ball. On Smyrna’s first possession he would take a 2 yard swing pass 60 plus yards, sprinting past the stunned Star D for his fourth touchdown of the night. Smyrna would add another touchdown and eventually call off the bulldogs in the fourth, taking care of business on the road and picking up their fifth win of the season in a 42-10 shellacking.

Smryna (5-1) will travel back to Murfreesboro to take on Blackman (2-3) in what will prove to be a huge district game next Friday.

Siegel (1-5) will stay at home and take on Riverdale (3-3)
