Drought Alert: The Smyrna Utilities service area has had lower than normal precipitation. The National Drought Mitigation Center identifies the Smyrna Utilities area as currently experiencing a “D2- Severe Drought”. As identified in the Smyrna Utilities drought management plan, the Smyrna Utilities wants to notify its customers it is currently in Phase 2 – Voluntary Water Reductions. Smyrna Utilities is asking everyone to conserve water by stopping all non-essential uses. Non-essential uses are list below as Category 1 for this level of drought response. Further drought response may result in Smyrna Utilities moving to Phase 3 – Mandatory Water Restriction. At this time , we ask for your help in efforts to conserve water by stopping non-essential water uses listed in Category 1.
Category 1
The following uses are declared to be non-essential uses during a Phase – 2 Voluntary Water Reduction:
- Washing sidewalks, driveways, parking areas, tennis courts, patios or other exterior paved areas, except by the Town for the public safety.
- Filling or refilling a swimming pool.
- Noncommercial washing of privately owned motor vehicles, trailers and boats.
- Any use of water from a fire hydrant except for fighting fires, or use by the Town.
- Watering of lawns, gardens, landscaped areas, trees, shrubs or other plants.
- Use of water for dust control or compaction during construction.
