The Nashville Civil War Roundtable will have its 93rd meeting on Monday, with a guest author speaking about his book on the talk’s subject, Gen. William T. Sherman.

The Dec. 19 meeting will be in the visitor’s center of Ft. Negley Park in Nashville, begin at 7 p.m. and be open to the public.

The man who “made Georgia howl,” Sherman is a notorious figure in the history of the Old South and the Civil War.

“We have a great treat this month in Sherman’s latest biographer,” Sam Gant, a Roundtable member, said.

James McDonough, whose book “William Tecumseh Sherman” made the New York Times Best Seller list in July, will guest speak.

McDonough is a native of Nashville, and earned his Ph.D. in history from Florida State University. He has been a professor of history at Lipscomb, Pepperdine, and Auburn Universities, and published 11 books.

Dr. McDonough’s books include works on the battles of Franklin, Nashville, Stones River, Chattanooga, Shiloh, the Atlanta Campaign and the war in Kentucky.

“Dr. McDonough’s books are some of the earliest to touch on the War in the West and set the tone for others to follow his work, putting the spotlight on the Civil War’s most important theater,” Gant said.
