VITA stands for Volunteer Income Tax Assistance. The VITA program is a nationwide program that runs from the end of January through April 15th. IRS certified volunteers prepare tax returns for free for individuals and families earning less than $66,000 in 2018. During the 2018 tax season, more than 40 volunteers completed 1,434 tax returns resulting in more than $2.2 million worth of savings, states their site.
