It’s Memorial Day weekend, and there are a ton of things happening this weekend. While we honor soldiers who have protected us with their lives, we also mark the beginning of the summer season. Both Sports*com and the Smyrna SOAC splash pad and pool are opening Saturday, May 25 for the season, and it’s not a moment too soon as temperatures start edging into the 90s. 1. Memorial Day Flag Placement at Stones River National Cemetery
WHAT: Visitors are invited to gather at the national cemetery rostrum to remember the sacrifices of soldiers, past and present. The event will include patriotic music, a wreath laying ceremony and a reading of the names of veterans who have passed away since last Memorial Day. Parking will be near the park visitor center.

2. Community Picnic
WHAT: Turning Point Church is hosting a community picnic and invites you. There will be kids games, a dessert contest, BBQ and a cornhole tournament!

3. The Splash Zone at Lucky Ladd Farms
WHAT: Join Lucky Ladd Farms as they kick off the summer season. Fun water adventures await at Lucky Ladd Farms Splash Zone where fun-seekers can dive into mountains of foamy bubbles in the Bubble Blast pool and then let showers of cool water rain over from the Splash Pad. The Splash Zone opens Memorial Day and closes the last Saturday in August.

4. Celtic Weekend at Tennessee Renaissance Festival
WHAT: Those familiar with Middle Tennessee are often familiar with the annual Renaissance Festival that returns for weekends during May. Just like every year, they have their final weekend of the season on Memorial Day weekend, and this year it’s a Celtic Weekend. Bring your own Celtic flair to the Faire or just enjoy the others attending and participating. Enjoy the fun as they honor those early Britons with kilts! Wee bairns, lads and lasses, get ready to “Count the Freckles” in the Children’s Area. Listen and hum along as Celtic melodies echo through our forest glen.

5. Memorial Day Madness
WHAT: If you want to spend the holiday in the pool, there are a couple of great options including Sport*com’s celebration. Enjoy a day of swimming, music, fun and prizes at Boro Beach this Memorial Day! The whole family is invited to attend. Cost ranges from $5-7 per person and cheaper for pass holders.
