Rutherford Weekend: 5 Things to do This Weekend

This weekend is one full of shopping for many being a part of Thanksgiving Weekend, Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and great deals to be had, but there’s much more going on than shopping here in Rutherford County. While we are certainly participating in the shopping festivities, there’s also fun events for both kids and adults. Check out these 5 things to do this weekend in Rutherford County.

1. Smyrna Christmas Parade


WHAT: The 45th Annual Smyrna Christmas Parade will take place on Sunday, December 1st at 2pm. Folks of all ages will gather along Lowry Street in anticipation of the arrival of floats, bands, classic cars, riding clubs, dancers and, of course, Santa Claus as they glide down Lowry Street toward Sam Ridley Parkway. This year’s theme is “A Tennessee Christmas”. Remember to bring donations for the Nourish Food Bank! The Town of Smyrna will have a float in the parade that will collect the donations as it proceeds along the parade route!

2. Small Business Saturday

WHAT: Shop Local. Live Local. Love Local.

Wilson Bank & Trust is sponsoring the Downtown Small Business Saturday by providing up to $2,500 in “Small Biz Bucks”! Anyone can go to one of four Wilson Bank & Trust offices in Murfreesboro (one per day per person) and ask for $5 in Biz Bucks. Shop downtown Saturday, November 30 and use your Biz Bucks at participating stores just like coupons. Support your locally owned and operated businesses on Small Business Saturday and SAVE MONEY!

3. Fall Craft Fair at The Grove


WHAT: The 2nd annual fall craft fair at The Grove features over 50 vendors to help you take care of your holiday shopping needs! Entrance fee is $5.00 per car which you will pay at the gate.

WHEN: Saturday, November 30, 8am – 3pm & Sunday December 1, 10am – 3pm

4. Murfreesboro Thanksgiving Weekend 2K19 Comedy Jam

WHAT: Kickoff Thanksgiving Weekend with your friends and family with BET “Comic View” and P.Diddy’s “Bad Boys of Comedy” legend Tyler Craig & Friends performing live comedy at Washington Theatre in Murfreesboro. Entry for VIP Ticket holders will be 6:45pm for photo booth & Red Carpet shopping experience prior to General admission ticket holders entry at 7:00pm. Showtime is 8:00pm. DJ TrudaVan will be opening the show with a 7:00pm Pre-Show DJ Set followed by comedic acts from Jessica Carter (Nashvile, TN), Reggie Junior (Memphis, TN) and hosted by the “Ya mama’s favorite host” Mr. Carl Burrell (Nashville, TN) .

Comedian Tyler Craig is an Atlanta-based American comic legend that has appeared on HBO’s “Def Comedy Jam” in 1997. Tyler has appeared on BET’s “Comic View,” Jamie Foxx’s “LAFFAPALOOZA!,” “That Comedy Show” and Martin Lawrence’s “First Amendment.”
The style of this comedian appeals to individuals from all walks of life and he has been blessed with the opportunity to perform in some of the nation’s top comedy clubs. He has also opened for well known comics, including Cedric the Entertainer, Mo’Nique, Katt Williams, Chris Tucker, and more.

5. Storytime and Activities at Barnes and Noble


WHAT: Join Barnes and Noble for Storytime and activities featuring two books about cherished holiday traditions for families. They’ll be reading Dear Santa and Cookies for Santa as a special holiday start as well as other activities. Join them this Saturday with your kids for this special holiday experience.
