Rutherford Weekend: 5 Things to do This Weekend

Rutherford County Schools start next week, and it’s the last chance to fit in some fun and time for last-minute school prep. This weekend promises to offer all of that including an annual time of prayer for Tennessee schools and many back to school bashes. Check out these 5 things to do this weekend.

1. Boro Balloon Fest

WHAT: Boro Balloon Fest will host several hot air balloons for adventure flights, tethered rides, & balloon glows for 3 days at The Grove at Williamson Place. In addition to the hot air balloons activities will include food trucks, live music, craft vendors, hayrides, a slime creation station, and a hot air balloon photo booth sponsored by Puckett’s Murfreesboro. Boro Balloon Fest has fun and adventure for all ages.

2. BetterBoro Back to School Bash

WHAT: The Better Boro Back to School Bash occurs during the Boro Balloon Fest on Saturday night. The Bash features recording artist Dave Barnes. This sunset concert will benefit the Second Harvest program. Tickets are $15. You can purchase tickets just for the concert and not the Balloon Fest.

3. #Pray4StudentsTN

WHAT: #Pray4StudentsTN is a yearly time of prayer over every student and every school in Tennessee. The first weekend of August each year is proclaimed as the statewide Weekend of Prayer Over Students Across Tennessee. At the request of First Priority, The TN State Legislators and Governor Bill Haslam signed it into law on April 24th, 2015. First Priority, Moms in Prayer, local churches and others work to coordinate prayer for our schools, students, teachers, staff and administrators during this weekend as school begins each year.

4. Ice Cream Social and Back to School Bash

 

WHAT: On August 3,  come on out to Barfield Crescent Park (Pavilion 1) in Murfreesboro for some free ice cream and airbrush tattoos.

The event will be collecting school supplies to give to one of the many wonderful teachers in the Murfreesboro City Schools. Below is a list of items they are collecting:

  • Glue sticks
  • Disinfectant/Clorox wipes
  • 16 or 24 Crayola crayons
  • Black Expo dry erase markers
  • Baby wipe refills
  • Box of tissues
  • 12 oz bottle of Germ X hand sanitizer
  • Can of Lysol spray

5. Back to School Community Event

WHAT: This free community event includes a free school supply giveaway, a drawing for a FREE Chromebook (must be present to win), free food, fun jumpers, entertainment and much more. Itzaphillything food truck, Smyrna fire truck and much, much more! Come out and get your supplies for a great start to the upcoming school year.
