James Evans with Rutherford County Schools sent parents an important update regarding their plan for coronavirus, otherwise known as COVID-19.

We were notified this afternoon at 2 p.m. of a confirmed case of COVID-19 in Rutherford County. We have been told it is an adult but we do not know yet if the individual has connections to any of our schools. We expect to learn more soon.

However, Director of Schools Bill Spurlock has announced a plan to close all Rutherford County schools for one week beginning Monday, March 16. Again, all schools and school-related activities will be closed for one week beginning, Monday, March 16. All field trips and sporting events involving our students or facilities will be put on hold and rescheduled, if possible.

During that time, school employees will remain at home while our district maintenance and custodial staff deep cleans all school buildings.

We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation as it evolves in Tennessee, and if any other schedule changes become necessary, we will keep parents and employees informed.
