Franklin quarterback Josh Nichols was 14 of 19 for 221 yards and three touchdowns passing, as the Rebels improved to 1-1 with a win at Riverdale on Friday night.
Riverdale’s Taylor Yancey hit Jaylen Simmons with an 80-yard scoring pass on the game’s first snap, but that’s all the scoring the Warriors had.
Riverdale, which fell to East Nashville last week, is now 0-2.
Receivers Chancellor Bright (two catches, 101 yards) and Brock Holthous (3-81) each caught touchdowns. So did running back Matt Gaca (3-37), who also ran 16 times for 59 yards.
After a fast start, neither team scored in the second half. Franklin out-gained Riverdale, 334-136.
Each team scored on its first snap of the game. For Franklin, that was a Nichols-to-Bright touchdown pass that covered 64 yards, with Alex Cundall’s point-after knotting the score at seven.
The Rebels went up seven with 6:11 left in the quarter after Nichols connected with Holthouse on a 39-yard touchdown.
Franklin scored a third first-quarter touchdown when Nichols hit Gaca with a 16-yard touchdown pass for a 21-7 lead after Cundall’s point-after.
Cundall’s field goal made it 24-7 at half.
