Riverdale couldn’t replicate last week’s magic, falling 56-17 at Cookeville on Friday night in Round 2 of the TSSAA Class 6A playoffs.
The Warriors trailed just 14-10 midway through the second quarter, then, the bottom dropped out as Cookeville scored the next 21 points and led 35-10 just after the second half started.
A 33-yard interception return by Cookeville’s Michael Scavo with 6:06 left in the second quarter contributed to the rout.
Riverdale (9-3) saw its season end after upsetting unbeaten Mt. Juliet on the road last week.
On Sept. 29, the Warriors had beaten Cookeville by a 30-28 score. That contest was played at Riverdale.
