Buchanan Elementary School Principal Michael Hickman has announced his resignation from Rutherford County Schools to accept a principal position with Wilson County Schools.
Hickman, who lives in Wilson County, will continue as Buchanan principal until March 24.
“This was not an easy decision to make due to the relationships that I have built in Rutherford County and the Buchanan Elementary School community,” Hickman said. “However, this opportunity will allow me to be closer to my home. I do thank (Director of Schools Don) Odom and Rutherford County Schools for their support and understanding of my departure from this great school system.”
Hickman has been with Rutherford County Schools since 1996 and worked as a classroom teacher at Rock Springs Elementary School and Thurman Francis Arts Academy until 2004. He also worked as the School-based Technology Specialist at McFadden School of Excellence before being named assistant principal at Rock Springs Elementary, until he was named principal of Buchanan in 2009.
Rutherford County Director of Schools Don Odom will announce plans soon for the Buchanan principal position.
