Bulldogs Look to Bounce Back against Stars

Rutherford County rivals ready themselves in anticipation of Friday night’s game. A contest that pits Region 3’s, Siegel Stars, against Region 5’s, Smryrna Bulldogs. The Oakland Patriots have all but locked up Region 3, while 5 is still up for grabs for the Bulldogs. So for Siegel, every game from here on out will have to be viewed as a playoff game, since an automatic playoff birth is off the table. And if you’re a Bulldog fan, last weeks performance has to have you worried, with the Region 5 crown now being a long shot.

The two former District 7 foes have continued to meet on the field every year since the teams split into different Regions. Dating back into those District play days up until last year, this has been one of Rutherford’s most competitive rivalries. The Bulldogs currently hold a 6-4 edge over their Star counterparts in their last 10 meetings. Including last year’s Bulldog drumming of the Stars, 42-10.

Siegel and their 500 record only have three games left after Friday night, one of which is against Oakland. With a loss on Friday, the Stars’ will be in jeopardy of missing the playoffs for the first time since 2014. But momentum is on Siegel’s side with a huge win over Warren County last week. The Stars out shinned the Pioneers on the night, 54-14.

Smyrna, continued their up and down season last week, when they were dismantled by Cane Ridge. Being shut out for the second time this season. This defeat by a margin of 35-0. Besides the lopsided score, Smyrna also lost their shot at knocking Cane Ridge out of first place in Region 5. (Cane Ridge shares first place with McGavock, respectively.) The Bulldogs will need help along the way from other teams to make the playoffs, but a win against the Stars is a good start. Smyrna’s three remaining games are all Region games, with the season finale being against McGavock. A game that could come down to a winner take all scenario.

The game is at Smyrna High School and kickoff is at 7pm.
