Though they’ve been open and hosting a number of events since December, Hop Springs Brewery celebrated their official opening with a ribbon cutting on May 23, 2019. Some 150 agritourism, music, food, and beverage enthusiasts helped Middle Tennessee State University’s fermentation science program and partner Hop Springs celebrate a ribbon-cutting at the beer park’s operations just off John Bragg Highway at their 83 plus acre location. The event included music, food and beverages, and tours of the new analytical and fermentation science labs in Hop Springs’ building space.
The idea of the brewery and attached park came from former MTSU student Mark Jones and created in partnership with others who support and helped create the success Hop Springs has already seen. While their goal is to become the largest craft beer maker in the state, they also run off the idea and mission of Life is Brewing. This idea is the backbone behind their brewery and their business model.
While the brewery and business is surrounded by 83 acres of land to grow their agricultural supplies like hops and other products, the rest of the property includes their taproom, a disc golf course, amphitheater, dog park, and much more. It is more than just a destination for adults who are craft beer enthusiasts, but a venue to bring the whole family.
Their taproom hosts 20-30 beers at all times and the venue has become a strong part of the MTSU community. Not only do the hospitality & tourism students and fermentation students work there while earning their degrees, Hop Springs Brewery has become home to students on Thursday nights for Trivia and MTSU True Blue featuring live music and more.
Middle Tennessee State University built its new fermentation lab in the back half of the building where the bar is located, where fermentation students gather data about beer usage and flavor interests, as well as about other fermented products. Music industry management students work with Hop Springs, learning about the process of setting up and running live music entertainment during the week and for the many events held at Hop Springs.
They also allow you to join them through memberships that provide a number of perks including specials, exclusive products, discounts on merchandise, and much more. Additionally, they also have a Life is Brewing Foundation that supports local charities.
Hop Springs really is more than just a business; it is a combination of a learning and education co-operative, a place for entertainment and fun for the family, and an essential part of the Rutherford County community.
