Middle Tennessee senior point guard Ty Petty has been named C-USA Player of the Week following her dynamic performances in two Lady Raider wins last week.

Petty averaged 25 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 2.5 steals in the wins, which included a 64-61 conference road win at UAB. It marks the first time Petty has been named C-USA Player of the Week. Awards are chosen by a vote from a panel representing the 14 member schools.

Petty scored 29 of Middle Tennessee’s 64 points in the win at UAB to equal her career high for scoring. She also became the 30th member of the program’s 1,000-point club in the process.

“It’s an honor to win this award because there are so many outstanding players in C-USA,” Petty said. “I appreciate the people who voted for me, but I couldn’t do anything without my Lord, my coaches and my teammates.”

Petty also went 17-of-17 from the free-throw line in the two wins and has connected on a school-record 31 consecutive makes. Petty also had a season-high five steals at UAB, which was one off of her career high.

The workhorse played all 40 minutes in both games, marking the eighth time she has went the distance this season. She also moved into seventh on the career assists lists during the week. Petty is one assist from moving into sixth all time.

“Ty Petty does a great deal for our basketball team,” Middle Tennessee Head Coach Rick Insell said. “I would say she is as valuable to our team as any player in America is to their squad. Her numbers stack up with some of the best players out there, but Ty Petty is not about numbers. She is about winning and that is one of her greatest attributes. She’s a team player. At the end of the day, Ty is driven to help her team succeed. She is a great teammate.”

Petty is among C-USA leaders in seven categories. She leads the league in free-throw percentage (.892) and minutes played (39.4), and she also ranks among the leaders in assists (2nd, 5.5), scoring (8th, 14.5), 3-point field goal percentage (8th, .411), 3-point field goals made (5th, 2.1) and steals (12th, 1.6).

Petty leads the nation in minutes per game and she is 11th nationally for free-throw percentage.

Middle Tennessee will return to action when it plays host to Rice Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
