Mr. Sidney “SJ” Petty, age 96, passed away Thursday, October 3, 2019. He was the son of the late Henry and Hermie Petty. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Nancy Jackson; grandson, James “Sonny” Randall Petty; great grandchild, Alex Ward; 4 brothers; 2 sisters; and his first wife Betty Jean Petty.
He is survived by his wife, Maggie Petty; sons, Richard Petty, Mike Petty (Mary), James Randall Petty (Gail); grandchildren, Kenneth A. Petty, Vincent Petty, Jason Petty, Meaghan Petty, Michael Petty, Katie Petty, Angela Petty, Sherri Montgomery, Kelli Neal, Sydney Jones, and Joey Jackson; great grandchildren, Makayna Petty, Willow Thomas, Max Ward, Zach Neal, Addie Neal, Chloe Jackson, Parker, Abby, Cole, Carter Mae, Jackson; great great grandchildren, Izzy Ward and Titus Ward.
Mr. Petty was a member of Triune United Methodist Church and the Middle Tennessee Beagle Club. He was a dedicated Tennessee Vols fan. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be missed by all who knew him.
Visitation will be Saturday, October 5, 2019 from 3:00-7:00 PM. Funeral service will be Sunday, October 6, 2019 at 2:00 PM all at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow at Triune United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Bob Montgomery, Lowell Humphreys, Max Ward, Zach Neal, Otey Smithson, Damian Neal. Honorary Pallbearers include Jim Berryman, Joey Jackson, Gilbert “Bubba” Newell, Michael Petty, Roy Webb, Frank Newman, Winston McPeak, Vincent Petty, and Jason Petty.
