Shelia Gayle Vassar, age 62, of Lascassas, passed away on October 3, 2025, at Alive Hospice in Murfreesboro. She was born in Florence, Alabama, but lived in Murfreesboro for the past 50 years. Shelia worked as a Substitute Teacher in Rutherford County and as a Realtor with Bob Parks Realty. She was a member of Walter Hill First Baptist Church.
Shelia loved making people laugh, smile and enjoyed life. She was married to the love of her life, Donald, for 44 years and loved her grandbabies and the joy they brought her. She enjoyed riding around in her golf cart.
Shelia was preceded in death by her father, Billy Ray Thompson.
She is survived by her mother, Opel Joyce Thompson; husband, Donald Ray Vassar, Sr.; son, Donnie (Nikki) Vassar; brother, W.R. Thompson; and grandchildren, Dylan Vassar, Logan Lynch, Braelynn Lynch, and Tyler Jackson. She was also survived by many uncles, aunts, cousins, and in-laws.
Visitation was held from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at Jennings and Ayers Funeral Home. Chapel service was at 3:30 PM on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at Jennings and Ayers with Shelby Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Milton Cemetery with Donald Vassar, Donnie Vassar, Dylan Vassar, Logan Lynch, Tyler Jackson, Scotty Behel, and Casey Behel serving as pallbearers.
