Robert Edward Lufkin, age 91, of Murfreesboro, TN, went to be with the Lord on Friday, November 16, 2018. A native of Rutherford County, he was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Ollie Hall Lufkin; loving wife, “Sara” Louise Adams Lufkin; sisters, Margaret Maxwell and Marcella Burgess; and brother, Howard Lufkin.
Funeral services will be Monday, November 19, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Brother Jamie Byrom will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens with military honors.
He is survived by his sons, Walter Lufkin and his wife Vicki; and Larry Lufkin and his wife Teresa; grandchildren, Tina Daigle and her husband Jim, Erica Harris and her husband Bradley, Mandy Barrett and her husband T.J., Matt Lufkin, and Megan Glover and her husband Kevin; eight great grandchildren; two sisters, Evelyn Baltimore and Frances Richards; along with many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Lufkin was a member of Bethlehem Church of Christ. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army and served with the 16th communication squadron in Tokyo, Japan, during 1946 installing, maintaining and repairing military telephones and telegraph wiring systems. Later, he was a salesman for Red Rose Dairies in Murfreesboro and retired many years later as a Foreman with the Rutherford County Highway Department. Mr. Lufkin was a life-time member of the Middle Tennessee Beagle Club. He loved his family very much but especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren, and would attend events they were involved in with his wife. He will be greatly missed.
The family would like to thank Alive Hospice for the extra tender love and care they gave to Mr. Lufkin.
Memorials in memory of Mr. Lufkin can be made to the Murfreesboro Alive Hospice.
Family will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be Monday, November 19, 2018, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Woodfin Memorial Chapel, prior to the service.
