OBITUARY: Kathleen Jean “Kathy” Wenzel

Kathleen “Kathy” Jean Wenzel, 72, of Port Charlotte, Florida passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, July 25, 2026.

Kathy was born September 2, 1953, in Rockford, Illinois to the late Jack Keith Boyer and Darlene Jean (Fairclough) Boyer.

She was a 1971 graduate of Freeport High School and was a faithful employee of Aqua Aerobic Incorporated in Rockford, IL until her retirement in 2014. Kathy poured her free time into the social fabric of the town in which she and Elwyn raised her children – she was a former President of the Pecatonica Women’s Club, and a multi-time chairperson of the club’s annual “A Day in the Country” Craft Fair.

Kathy had a life-long passion for automobile racing and was a 48-year member of the Blackhawk Valley Region of the Sports Car Club of America.

She is survived by her loving family, her husband, Elwyn R. Wenzel of Port Charlotte, FL; two sons, Elliot (Jennifer) Wenzel of Everett, WA and Nikolas Wenzel of Park Ridge, IL; one granddaughter, Lila Wenzel of Park Ridge, IL; her mother, Darlene Boyer of Freeport, IL; her sisters, Brenda (Paul) Brown of Murfreesboro TN, Cheri Tempel of Freeport, IL, Liz (Forrest) Senn of Freeport, IL; her brother, Keith “Butch” Boyer of Freeport, IL; and two brothers-in-law, Maurice (Donna) Wenzel of Rockledge, FL and Kevin (Claudia) Wenzel of Freeport, IL. She was preceded in death by her father, Jack Boyer, of Freeport, IL, and her brother-in-law, Jerry Tempel, of Freeport, IL.

A Celebration of Life Reception will be held on Sunday, August 2, 2026, from 2:30 PM at the family’s home, 131 Cousley Drive SE, Port Charlotte, FL 33952.

A Memorial Services and Reception will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2026, with a Visitation beginning at 3:00 PM followed by the Memorial Service at 4:00 PM at the First Church of the Open Bible, 3800 W. Stephenson St., Freeport, IL 61032.
