John E. Jones, Jr., age 62, passed away at his residence October 7, 2018. He was a lifelong resident of Rutherford County and attended Kittrell Elementary School/High School, Oakland High School and Middle Tennessee State University. Johnny was a member of Science Hill Church of Christ. He taught, coached, and gave his life to the Kittrell Community for thirty two years before retiring and having the basketball court dedicated in his name. Under his leadership, all who were coached and taught by him were inspired and empowered to reach their full potential, on and off the court.
Johnny was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Brashear Jones. He is survived by his parents, John Edgar, Sr. and Margaret Lee McClure Jones; daughter, Amy Elizabeth (Chris) Jones; brothers, Aubrey (Sheila) Jones, Howard “Bubba” (Kathy) Jones; grandchildren, Maverick and Ford Jones; and nieces, Jenifer (Clay) Burns and Lora (Shawn) Wright.
Visitation with the family will be 4:00-8:00 PM, Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at Jennings and Ayers Funeral Home.
Chapel service will be 11:00 AM, Wednesday, October 10, 2018 with Brian Harrell officiating. Burial will follow in Coleman Cemetery with Tim Tidwell, Tim Lokey, Nicky Luper, Terry Lyons, Randell Smitty and Bruce Herman serving as pallbearers.
