
James Lewis Richardson, age 80, died at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital on December 28, 2018. A native of Rutherford County, TN, Lewis was born January 16, 1938 to the late William Arthur and Sarah Andarene Travis Richardson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and by his brother, Howard Ray Richardson; and by his infant brothers, Sam Wiles Richardson and John Paul Richardson.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dorothy Clanton Richardson of Christiana; son, Roger (Jolie) Richardson of Shelbyville; daughter, Tina (Jeff) Fox of Midland Community; grandsons, Travis, Justin, and Caleb Richardson of Shelbyville; sisters, Mary Jane Gannon and Margie (Jimmy) Jordan of Murfreesboro, Daphne Jean (Sterling) Yearwood of Donald’s Chapel Community; brother, Hoyte Richardson of Gallatin, TN; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Richardson was a 1957 graduate of Christiana High School. He served in the US Army from 1961-1963, serving most of his time in Germany during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He retired from the TN Farmers Co-op in LaVergne after 38 years of service as superintendent of the bulk feed mill. After retirement he worked for the Rutherford County Election Commission and the Rutherford Farmers Co-op.
He was a member of the Christiana Church of Christ where he served as Treasurer for over 30 years. He was a founding member of the Christiana Volunteer Fire Department.
Mr. Richardson enjoyed fishing, farming, gardening, watching his favorite team, Vanderbilt, and watching his grandsons show cows and play basketball.
Pallbearers will be Mike Richardson, Greg Jordan, Bobby Canterbury, and Travis, Justin, and Caleb Richardson. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Driver, Roy Adams, Winston Brothers, and the brethren of Christiana Church of Christ.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Brother Bruce Gleim and Brother Carter Woodruff will officiate the service. Burial will follow in Woodfin Cemetery in Fosterville, TN.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation or the Churches of Christ Disaster Relief Effort, Inc.
Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Woodfin Memorial Chapel.
