Harold Lee Best, age 85, went to be with the Lord on November 21, 2019. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Liddie Bridgforth Best. He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Gail Collins Best; daughters Laura Lanier of Lawrenceville, Georgia and Lynette Corbitt of Smyrna, Tennessee; granddaughter Katelyn Corbitt and father-in-law Dale Collins.

Harold was a tireless worker, beginning his “career” at age 10. He worked in his father’s tire shop in Warrensburg, Missouri, where he sold soft drinks to customers. After college, he began working for the U.S. General Accounting Office, eventually retiring from the U.S. Government. After being self-employed for a time, he took an auditing position with Tennessee State Government. There he worked several years and retired again. He also worked for H&R Block for ten years. After retirement, Harold enjoyed traveling with his wife across the U.S. and to many foreign countries. He particularly enjoyed vacation cruises. His constant companion during the last two years of retirement was his beloved maltipoo, Josie. She always brought a smile to his face.

Although Harold was quite reserved, his friends and family always enjoyed his unique sense of humor. After his passing, one friend described him as “having a terrific insight and a gentle way about sharing it.”

A celebration of Harold’s life will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2019 at noon. Visitation will be immediately prior to the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. Visitation and service will take place at the Woodfin Chapel located at 203 North Lowry Street in Smyrna. The service will be conducted by Rev. Hunter Mobley and Rev. Dan Scott. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery.
