
Ben E. Bugg, age 90 of Murfreesboro, TN, passed away Wednesday, August 7, 2019. A native of Rutherford County, he was the son of the late Benjamin Zackariah and Verlinda Elizabeth James Bugg. Mr. Bugg was also preceded in death by a brother, Charles H. Bugg, Sr.
Mr. Bugg is survived by his wife of 68 years, Peggie Webb Bugg; son, Burton Bugg of Panama City, FL; daughters; Melanie Cross and her husband David Cordell of Old Hickory, TN, and Benita Thomas and her husband Terry of Gordonsville, TN; grandchildren, Joshua and Jeremy Thomas, Julie Hale, Kala Dyke, and Brad Bugg; great-grandchildren, Liam, Ellie, Luke, and Evy Dyke, and Zaylie Hale; Nephews, Chuck and Kirk Bugg of Murfreesboro, TN; niece, Margie Brown of Murfreesboro, TN
Visitation will be from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM Sunday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM Sunday with Dr. Dean Sisk officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens with military honors. Chuck Bugg, Kirk Bugg, David Brown, Burt Bugg, Brad Bugg, Terry Thomas, Joshua Thomas, Jeremy Thomas, Justin Hale, David Cordell, and Will Dyke will serve as pallbearers.
Mr. Bugg graduated from Central High School in 1947. He also attended Chicago Technical College and Knox Business College. He served in the Army from 1951 to 1953 and was stationed at Camp Breckenridge, KY, Camp Gordon, GA (where he married his lovely wife Peggie of 68 years) and also Fort Jackson, SC. They returned to Murfreesboro and he worked for South Central Bell, and was also a member of the Masons. After being transferred to Nashville with Bell, he served as a Public Service Rep. for the Middle TN Division. He and Peggie raised their three children in the Donelson community. He was a wonderful husband and Father and took his family all over America and into Mexico and Canada on vacations. After retiring from 35 years of service with (Bell) AT&T in 1982, they moved back to Murfreesboro and built a new home where they lived until this year. Due to health issues, each lived with a daughter.
In his younger adult life he was a member, deacon and formulating committee chairman of the Southeast Baptist Church in Murfreesboro. They were members of the Donelson First Baptist Church and were members of Belle Aire Baptist Church in Murfreesboro and the Joy Sunday School class.
Mr. Bugg loved fishing, camping, hunting, gardening, waterskiing, traveling and talking!
