The last two Oakland-Maryville games were classics as both teams split the games as both won by three points.
In a game with an intense hype with the top two teams in Class 6A, Maryville senior running back Bryson Teffeteller scored the game winner from two yards out with just 39 seconds left as the No. 2 Rebels (2-0) topped the No. 1 Patriots (1-1) 24-21 in yet another classic game between the two programs.
Oakland took the ball and drive to the Maryville 40 yard line and with 2. 9 left, quarterback Brevin Linnell’s heave to the end zone was incomplete and Maryville held on to beat Oakland for the second straight time at Maryville by three points.
Maryville led 14-0 at half time as quarterback Cade Chambers and running back Tee Hodge had scores to stake the Rebels.
But Oakland came out of the locker room taking the second half kickoff and full back Mookie Wilson had a 66 yard run on the first play to give the Patriots momentum.
Three plays later, Xavier Myers scored from three yards out to cut the Maryville lead to 14-6.
Myers was the big offensive threat for Oakland as he rushed for 116 yards and scored all three Patriot touchdowns.
“It’s a tough result to take but I love the fight and the effort of my guys in the second half,” Oakland coach Kevin Creasy said.
