Blaze Look to Turn Up Heat Against Oakland

When these two undefeated’s face off Friday night (September 22), the contest will basically be Region 3’s de facto championship game. And that’s not all that will be on the line in the contest. As the winner will likely gain home field advantage throughout the 6A playoffs and have the inside track on getting to Cookeville in December.

Last years highly anticipated match up between these two ended with Oakland dismantling Blackman. In what was a jaw dropping 38 to nothing beat down. This years game is poised to be a much closer contest.

The Patriots are coming off of the “Battle of the ‘Boro.” A rivalry game where Riverdale was no match on the night for Oakland on either side of the ball. The Pats eased by the Warriors to the tune of 43-14. But, Blackman is not Riverdale, and the Patriots know they will be in for a fight. The Pat’s closet contest this season was a 17-14 victory against perennial state power, Maryville. A margin of victory fans can expect to see this Friday night as well.

Blackman running back and Ohio State commit, Master Teague, looks like he’ll be good to go after missing last weeks match. Teague, sustained a leg injury in Week 4’s win against Smyrna in the first quarter. As for the rest of the Blaze last week, they did what they’ve done every year since 2012. Handle cross county foe, Siegel 35 to three. On the night the Blaze D kept the Star’s stud and state stand out, Lelan Willhoitte out of the end zone. A feat they hope to accomplish against Oakland’s Jeron Rooker.

The game is at Blackman High, kickoff is set for 7pm.
