If you follow Mid- State football and/or SEC football, then you know the name of Oakland Patriots standout Jacoby Stevens.  The 6’2 , 200 lb. wide receiver/safety is one of the most coveted players in this year’s recruiting battles. Originally, Stevens had committed to LSU, but when the Tiger faithful started questioning Les Miles status, Stevens rescinded his commitment. Miles, whose future is for now secure, and LSU were one of four schools in the running for the safety standout. Alabama, Georgia, and Auburn were reported as the other three.

A Tennessee Titans Class 6A Mr. Football  finalist in 2015,  he caught 32 passes for 806 yards and 11 touchdowns and rushed for 123 yards on 16 carries with three touchdowns last season. He tallied 84 tackles with 8.5 for loss. He had six interceptions, recovered two fumbles and had two defensive scores.

Jacoby is rated #25  nationally  according to ESPN. Stevens was seen wearing a Georgia t-shirt at an All-American game this year. But, he grew up a Tigers fan and has family from Louisiana. Alabama was reported to be making a late push before the announcement

According to a quote from Jacoby’s dad, Jeremy Stevens on SECCountry.com published a week ago :

“We, as a family, looked at not only the final four couple of schools but a lot of the schools that were still showing interest … teams like Clemson who was really engaged and (Tennessee),” Jeremy Stevens told SEC Country. “We talked about the pros and cons, the positives about LSU and most of our family being there and the supporting cast, and after we talked about those things, we made a decision.”

“Two stood out,” he added, “and the other two were right behind. Alabama made a strong push of late, but I would say it’s between LSU and Alabama.”

At a press conference at Oakland High School this afternoon, Stevens made his choice:  LSU
