Putting a Wrap on the Regular Season

The Smyrna Bulldogs traveled to Murfreesboro Friday night to take on the number one ranked team in the state. The undefeated Oakland Patriots. With all 6-A teams guaranteed a spot in post season play next week this game was nothing more then bragging rights for both teams. The game also provided Oakland the opportunity to complete their first perfect regular season since 2013. For Smyrna, the chance to knock the Patriots down a peg before heading into the playoffs.

Like so often this season the Patriots were too much for their opponent, even one the caliber of Smyrna. The Bulldogs came out to play ball in the first quarter, matching the Patriots first score with one of their own. The second quarter would start 7-7, it wouldn’t end that way. The Patriots would tack on 21 more points before the half, almost putting the icing on a perfect regular season. The second half was more of the same for the Patriots, scoring three more touchdowns in a route of their division foe. Oakland would win the game 49-7 and finish their season with a record of 10-0 while having one the most dominate years in recent memory of a Tennessee high school team. The most points the team allowed in a single game all season was 13, the Pats lowest offensive outing was 35. The Bulldogs finish the season with a mark if 6-4.

Next week Smyrna will play Dobyns-Bennet (5-5) in the first round of the 6-A playoffs. The Patriots will host William Blount (2-8)
