Xavier Myers transferred to Oakland last month in an effort to raise his recruiting profile and to compete for a state championship at the 6A level.
After his commitment to Illinois State, the first goal has been accomplished, now Myers can turn his attention to helping the Patriots have a successful 2018 season.
“I would like to announce that I am committing to Illinois state,” Myers said via his Twitter account.
Myers (5-9, 190) chose the Redbirds over Southeast Missouri State, UT-Martin and Wofford and is the third Patriot to commit in this offseason joining defensive back Woodi Washington (Oklahoma) and defensive end Joseph Anderson (South Carolina).
“Illinois St is getting a great player and an even better person,” Oakland head coach Kevin Creasy said.
As a junior at Nashville Christian in 2017, he rushed for 2,634 yards and scored 35 touchdowns which earned him a Division II-A Mr. Football Finalist nod.
