New Jersey Man Found Murdered Near the Rutherford County Line

South Precinct detectives are continuing to learn more about murder victim Matthew Hemmelgarn, 33, of New Jersey, who was found dead at 7:55 a.m. today by a public works crew on the side of Old Hickory Boulevard near the former Starwood Amphitheater property.

No identification was found on the body. However, detectives did locate a key to a room at a Royal Parkway hotel. Through further investigation, they confirmed Hemmelgarn’s name and learned that he checked into that hotel last Sunday. He re-upped his room each day.

The latest information is that Hemmelgarn traveled to the Hooter’s restaurant on Largo Drive last night. He left there at approximately 10:40 p.m. Detectives are working to determine where he went and what happened to him from there.
