MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WKRN) – After two Murfreesboro motorcycle police officers were hurt in a crash Tuesday morning, the department had suspended its motorcycle program.
Police Chief Karl Durr said the department had been discussing the use of police motorcycles since Officer Matthew Stern was hurt in a crash in mid-July.
Durr said Tuesday’s crash involving Officers Chris Harris and Chris Waters on Northwest Broad Street expedited the evaluation of the motorcycle program.
“Until the issue is fully discussed and evaluated, we will implement a safety stand down of the motorcycle program. Effective immediately, officers assigned to the motor unit will conduct traffic operations in police issued cars until further notice. This is an opportunity to remind everyone to drive safe always and wear your seat belt,” he said.
Officers Harris and Waters were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
