Murfreeesboro students shine at 2018 Tennessee NASP State Tournament

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — In conjunction with the 2018 Tennessee National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) State Tournament, a 3D target challenge was held. Three teams competed in each of the elementary, middle, and high school divisions.

The 3D Challenge is a partnership between International Bowhunting Organization (IBO) and NASP. The challenge was held in a covered holding area adjacent to the Miller Coliseum.

Each student shot five arrows each at the six 3D targets. They ranged in distance from 10-15 meters.

Oakland from Murfreesboro won the high school division with a 1,637. Meigs County was second with a 1,598 and Riverdale from Murfreesboro third with a 1,537. A pair of freshmen were the top shooters in the division. Competing as an individual, McEwen’s Caleb Wilson had the top overall score in the event with a 294. Meigs County’s Sara Plank had a 266 for the best girls score in the high school division.

In the middle school division, Whitworth Buchanan was the winner with a 1,621. Ocoee Middle School from Cleveland was second with a 1,487 and Meigs Middle third with a 1,464. Tommy Willis from McEwen shot a 287 to be the top overall middle school shooter. Ashley Scott from East Lincoln and Whitworth Buchanan’s Emma Hickerson each had a 274 to lead the girls. Ashley was declared the winner by having 13 shots of 10 to Emma’s 12.

East Lincoln from Tullahoma claimed the elementary school title with a 1,505. Cleveland’s Black Fox Elementary was second with a 1,463 and Buchanan Elementary third with a 1,352. Olivia Spencer was the top girls and overall shooter in the division with a 277. Black Fox’s Luke Milligan was the top boys shooter with a 270.
