RUTHERFORD COUNTY – A joint investigation including Special Agents with the Drug Investigation Division of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, Tactical Diversion Agents with the Drug Enforcement Administration, and narcotics detectives with the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office, Murfreesboro Police Department, and Metro Nashville Police Department, has resulted in the indictment of three Middle Tennessee men on drug-related charges.
In September 2018, law enforcement officers began investigating a series of overdoses that occurred across the Middle Tennessee area involving fentanyl-laced heroin, including the death of Justin Brent (DOB 08/16/1988) of Murfreesboro. During the course of the investigation, TBI and DEA Agents and detectives with the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office and Murfreesboro Police Department developed information that identified members of the distribution organization of that supply of heroin and fentanyl with connections to the overdose victim.
On July 2nd, the Rutherford County Grand Jury returned indictments charging the following individuals:
* Lacorious Fuller (DOB 01/03/1993), Nashville: One count Second Degree Murder, one count Possession of Schedule I Drug in a Drug-Free School Zone.
* Matthew James (DOB 11/25/1989), Murfreesboro: One count Second Degree Murder, one count Possession of Schedule I in a Drug-Free School Zone, one count Manufacturing, Delivery, Sale or Possession Schedule I Drug, one count Manufacturing, Delivery, Sale or Possession Schedule 2 Drug.
* Brian Ayers (DOB 09/17/1971), LaVergne: One count Possession of Schedule I Drug in Drug-Free School Zone.
Fuller (below left) was served with the charges last week while in the Rutherford County Jail on a prior arrest. On Tuesday, Agents and detectives arrested James (middle) and Ayers (right). Both were booked into the Rutherford County Jail.
