“Tom made a major adjustment to his serve in November, and it’s paying off,” MT head coach Jimmy Borendame said. “His serve was good before, but now it’s even stronger. I anticipate Tom having a strong spring season.”

The Rotterdam, Netherlands, native began Monday with a 6-2 victory at No. 1 doubles with partner Chris Edge to be the first doubles team to get off the courts in the spring season. The pair followed that performance up against Chattanooga winning 6-4 at the top doubles spot to clinch the first point in the match against the Mocs.

In singles play, Moonen cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 triumph at No. 3 against Austin Peay in the 7-0 MT win over the Govs. He closed out the first day of the season at the top of the MT singles lineup against Chattanooga with an ace to wrap up a 6-4, 7-5 win, sealing another 7-0 shutout for the Blue Raiders.

This is the first Player of the Week award in Moonen’s career. Last season, Gonzalo Morell Raschiatore and Luis Morillo Diaz both received this honor. Miguel Negre Fernandez claimed C-USA’s final award of 2017, the Player of the Month award, for his stellar performance in the final month of the fall season.

Moonen and the Blue Raiders are on the road at Vanderbilt Friday afternoon before a doubleheader Sunday at the Adams Tennis Complex against UAB and Alabama State.
