Back-to-back Conference USA champions Middle Tennessee open the 2016-17 season Monday with a tough challenge as it takes on the field at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship.

The tournament, hosted by Tennessee, will be played at Cherokee Country Club in Knoxville with the first 36 holes on Monday and the final 18 on Tuesday.

Cherokee will be setup as a 5,897 yard, Par 71 course for the competition that features seven teams who finished the 2015-16 season ahead of the No. 53 ranked Blue Raiders in the Golfstat rankings.

Florida (No. 7), Kent State (No. 16) and the host Volunteers (No. 22) lead up the strong field of 15 teams based on the final Golfstat rankings from last season while in-state foes Chattanooga and Memphis will also compete in the event.

Middle Tennessee will also get a first look at C-USA challenger UTSA, who finished tied for fourth in the 2016 C-USA Championship and ended the season at No. 86 in the Golfstat rankings.

The remainder of the field is made up of BYU, Illinois, Maryland, Ole Miss, North Carolina, SMU, Wake Forest and Virginia Tech.

The Blue Raider lineup will be anchored at the top by a trio of all-conference performers in senior Samantha Gotcher, sophomore Hanley Long and sophomore Jenna Burris.

Senior Lacie York also makes her way into the lineup for the season’s opening tournament while freshman Katherine Holmes will round out the traveling squad for MT making her collegiate debut.

The action will begin with a shotgun start Monday at 7:00 a.m. CT. Live scoring will be available at Golfstat.com.
