MTSU’s Tucker Theatre will once again become the community’s holiday headquarters for the fifth annual “Joys of the Season” arts celebration on Sunday, Dec. 1.

The family-friendly event will begin at 3 p.m. Dec. 1 and showcase music, art, theater and dance created by MTSU students and faculty in the College of Liberal Arts, which presents “Joys of the Season” each year.

Tucker Theatre is located inside the Boutwell Dramatic Arts Building at 615 Champion Way. A campus map is available at http://bit.ly/MTSUParkingMap.

General admission tickets are $15, and children in grades K-12 can attend for $5 each. MTSU students can attend free with a current ID.

Tickets can be purchased at https://www.mtsu.edu/mtsuarts and will be available at the Tucker Theatre box office. Doors will open at 2:30 p.m. Dec. 1.

Students and faculty from the MTSU School of Music and Department of Theatre and Dance will present a variety of seasonal classics via their arts specialties, and works by students in the Department of Art and Design will be on display.

“The MTSU College of Liberal Arts is very excited about our fifth annual production of ‘Joys of the Season,’” said H. Stephen Smith, associate dean and voice professor in the School of Music.

“We’ll be repeating some of the more popular parts of the program from the first four years and adding several new twists in our ongoing effort to make this one of the most entertaining holiday events for both our campus community and the community at large.”

MTSU’s head men’s basketball coach, Nick McDevitt, is returning for this year’s “Joys of the Season.”

“I’ll read ‘The Night Before Christmas’ and pass out goodies to everyone in attendance,” McDevitt said. “Just like last year, I’ll be bringing along a couple of pretty big elves to help out, and I know we’re going to have a blast!

“I’m very excited that the athletic department continues to team up with the College of Liberal Arts. I’m a history major myself and know from personal experience just how important a liberal arts degree can be. It’s certainly made a difference in my life.”

You can watch a special video message from McDevitt about this year’s event at https://youtu.be/0dbdHqYxtI0.

“Joys of the Season” began in 2015 to showcase the College of Liberal Arts’ performing and fine arts departments and to express the university’s gratitude to the community for its decades of support.

Proceeds from the concert will again benefit MTSU Arts, which the College of Liberal Arts established in 2011 to support public performances and exhibits by the university’s art, theatre and dance departments and the School of Music.

Ascend Federal Credit Union sponsors MTSU Arts performances.

“It’s always a wonderful thing when you have so many faculty and students who are willing to take time out of their Thanksgiving holiday weekend to share their talents with others,” Smith added.

“We hope we can fill up Tucker Theatre with folks eager to end Thanksgiving weekend on a high note and to leave with positive feelings about the joyous holiday weeks ahead.”
