What: MTSU Spring 2018 Commencement Ceremonies

When: Friday, May 4, and Saturday, May 5

Where: Murfreesboro — MTSU’s Murphy Center, Hale Arena floor

Time: 3 p.m. Friday; 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday

Details: MTSU will award an estimated 2,641 degrees during its spring 2018 commencement ceremonies this Friday and Saturday, May 4 and 5, in Hale Arena inside Murphy Center.

The Friday graduate school ceremony begins at 3 p.m. sharp. The Saturday morning ceremony begins at 9 a.m. sharp, and the afternoon ceremony begins at 2 p.m. Each ceremony is expected to last about two hours.

Media should be in place at least 30 minutes before each event begins. No media will be permitted on the floor of Hale Arena during the ceremonies.

MTSU anthropology professor and Career Achievement Award winner Kevin Smith is the Friday speaker; alumnus and MTSU Board of Trustees Chairman Stephen B. “Steve” Smith and Lt. Gen. Robert L. Caslen Jr., superintendent of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, are the special speakers at the Saturday morning and afternoon ceremonies, respectively. University President Sidney A. McPhee and other MTSU officials also will speak briefly to graduates during the ceremonies.

Chef, restauranteur and artisan brewery founder Maneet Chauhan, a featured judge on the hit Food Network show “Chopped” and a business partner with MTSU’s new Fermentation Science Program, is the special speaker at both ceremonies. University President Sidney A. McPhee and other MTSU officials also will speak briefly to graduates during the ceremonies.

Each ceremony also will be streamed live online at http://www.mtsu.edu.live. The closed-captioned video feed will begin 15 minutes before each ceremony.
