MTSU plans to test its tornado sirens on campus and at the Miller Coliseum Complex Monday, Sept. 2, at 11:20 a.m.

This will be a brief, routine test of the system, and no action will be required. If there’s inclement weather in the area at the scheduled test time, the test will be canceled.

MTSU notifies the campus and surrounding neighborhoods before each siren test. The MTSU Police Department began a new “first Monday” tornado-siren testing schedule in August to minimize distractions for the campus and its neighbors and to create a simpler schedule that’s easier to remember.

When a siren test date falls on a university holiday, like Labor Day, the department will conduct the test at the regular time.

The new siren test schedule is available at http://www.mtsunews.com/tornado-siren-testing.

All MTSU students, faculty and staff automatically receive an email alert from the university’s Critical Notification System during a weather emergency. They also can choose to receive voice and text alerts.

Members of the campus community can prepare for emergency weather situations anytime by checking MTSU’s list of recommended shelters at http://tinyurl.com/MTSUTornadoShelters. University weather information is available at http://www.mtsunews.com/weather.
