Middle Tennessee’s women finished second while the men’s team finished fourth to close the 2017 edition of the C-USA Championships.

The Blue Raiders grabbed seven first-place finishes on the final day. Jacob Choge claimed the Freshman of the Year on the men’s side, while Elizabeth Dadzie finished as the High Point Scorer of the Meet for the women.

“We got about all we could out of these athletes. We have quality without the quantity. Janet Amponsah was a double winner, Agnes Abu was a double winner and Jacob Choge was a double winner. Some of them ran on the relay as well,” Coach Dean Hayes said. “We did a good job. We don’t hardly lose anybody off the women’s team, so we are looking forward to next year. We can’t ask them to do any more than they did.”

Janet Amponsah finished first in both the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash, while Agnes Abu grabbed a pair of wins in the 800-meter run and 1500-meter run.

Jacob Choge finished the men’s side with a pair of distance wins in the 5000-meter run and the 10000-meter run.

In the relays, MT’s women’s team of Amponsah, Abu, Loveth Odia and Abike Egbeniyi finished first and broke an 11-year-old record in the 4×400-meter relay with a time of 3:35.21 to close the meet.

Next up, the NCAA Regionals are scheduled for May 25-27 and will be held in Lexington, Ky.
