The Murfreesboro Police Department’s Real Time Crime Center (RTCC) played a crucial role in the capture and arrest of a man and two teenagers involved in a drive-by shooting that struck two apartments on Sunday, June 22.
Gunshot detection sensors alerted officers to gunfire near the Abbington Apartments on Bradyville Pike at 10:05 Sunday morning. The preliminary investigation revealed that someone fired shots from a blue Volkswagen sedan. Bullets hit two apartments, endangering residents inside. There were no injuries.
RTCC crime data analysts used license plate reader technology to identify the registered owner of the Volkswagen. This information led officers to the Chariot Pointe Apartments on E. Northfield Boulevard, where they found three individuals leaning against the Volkswagen.
Officers detained 20-year-old Kevin Hatter, and a 16-year-old male. After a foot pursuit, officers quickly apprehended another 16-year-old male. Hatter is facing four counts of reckless endangerment, vandalism, and possession of an altered tag. The two 16-year-old are facing separate charges.
Hatter is in jail at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center on a $63,500 bond. A hearing is set for Sept. 8 in General Session Court. Officers took the two 16-year-olds to the Rutherford County Juvenile Detention Center. They have been released.
