Monica Wilkerson has been selected as the next principal of David Youree Elementary School. Director of Schools Bill Spurlock made the announcement Dec. 19, 2018.

For the past five years, Wilkerson has served as the assistant principal at Rock Springs Elementary School in LaVergne.

“With 17 years experience and five as an assistant principal, Ms. Wilkerson has proven to be an instructional leader with a passion for empowering students,” Director Spurlock said.

Wilkerson began her teaching career as an interim with with Murfreesboro City Schools. She then served as an interim fourth-grade teacher for Rutherford County Schools’ McFadden School of Excellence before becoming a full-time fourth-grade teacher at Barfield Elementary School, a position she held for 11 years.

“I am thankful to Mr. Spurlock for the opportunity to become a part of the David Youree family,” Wilkerson said. “I look forward to continuing the culture of high expectations and intentionality that Mr. Bolden has set in motion. David Youree will continue to focus on providing students with the academic and social skills needed to achieve their goals.”

Wilkerson succeeds Scott Bolden, who was recently named the principal of the new Rocky Fork Elementary School, which will open in August 2019.
