Murfreesboro Fire & Rescue’s District 1, Engine 4, Ladder 6, and Rescues 7 and 8 responded to a house fire at 611 Sunset Avenue just after 4:00 Thursday morning.

When crews arrived on scene, they discovered heavy smoke and flames coming from the back of the home. All three adult occupants were outside upon arrival.

According to one of the residents, they were awakened by the dogs and were able to get out of the house to safety. The four dogs were able to make it out safely as well. However, one cat perished in the fire.

The fire quickly spread and crews fought hard to extinguish it, but the home is likely a total loss, as it received fire, water, smoke, and heat damage.

The Red Cross was called to assist the residents. Casey Hill, Disaster Program Director, said they are providing the family a place to stay and assisting them with clothes and food.

Fire Marshal Carl Peas was called to the scene to conduct a routine investigation. At this time the cause of the fire is still unknown. However, it appears to have started in the back bedroom.
