Murfreesboro City Schools invites students and families to celebrate the return of the school year at the annual Blast Back to School. The event will take place on Saturday, August 6, from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., at Cannonsburgh Village, located at 312 S. Front St, Murfreesboro, TN 37129.
This year over 18 community agencies will combine with several emergency responder vehicles, the mobile library, mobile health unit and snack stands to celebrate the new school year.
“We had over 1000 visitors at last year’s event,” said Greg Lyles, Coordinator of Community Initiatives for Murfreesboro City Schools. “Students and parents always have fun at the event. There are games, giveaways and food to enjoy. They can also speak with community agencies about a range of topics that can help everyone have a great school year.”
This year MCS is partnering with Read to Succeed to incorporate Literacy Day activities into the Blast. The annual Literacy Day March will start at Central Magnet School and end at Cannonsburgh as part of the Blast Back to School. The first 500 people to register for the march will also get a free t-shirt.
“This event has so much to offer and we really encourage our families to come out and enjoy the day with us,” finished Lyles.
Murfreesboro City Schools is also offering a New MCS Parent Expo on August 4, from 2-5pm for parents of 1st-6th grade students who will be entering the district for the first time. There will be over a dozen booths for parents to visit where they can get information on district departments, the nutrition program, curriculum and much more. This event was created to serve parents who are entering the district from another state or system so they can learn about the services available to help their child have a great school year.
Blast Back to School is sponsored by the Community Outreach Team at Murfreesboro City Schools, the City of Murfreesboro, and Murfreesboro Parks and Rec.
Murfreesboro City Schools is a district of twelve schools committed to the academic and personal success of each child.
