The Maxwell Football Club today announced its watch lists for the 80th annual Maxwell Award and Middle Tennessee’s Brent Stockstill and Richie James were two of 90 candidates to make the list.

The Maxwell Award, named in honor of Robert W. “Tiny” Maxwell, has been given to America’s College Player of the Year since 1937. Maxwell’s contributions to the game of football were extensive, including time as a player, a sportswriter and an official.

Stockstill, the C-USA Freshman of the Year and a Freshman All-American, threw for 4,005 yards and 30 touchdowns to lead all freshman nationally.

James, a consensus Freshman All-American in 2015, reeled in a school record 108 receptions for 1,346 yards.

As announced back in May, senior Daniel Stephens is on the Rimington Watch List.

The Blue Raiders open the 2016 season on Sept. 3 at home against Alabama A&M. Kickoff is set for 6 PM and season tickets are on sale now at GoBlueRaiders.com.
