It was a big win for MTSU and another big night for l’Tavious Mathers. Coming off a 4 TD game last week against Bowling Green, Mathers let the Blue Raider charge in a comeback win over Louisiana Tech on Hall of Fame Weekend.
It didn’t look good for the Blue Raiders in the first half. The offense sputtered often and the defense was tired of being on the field . MTSU found themselves in a deep hole at halftime 20-7.
The third quarter looked like a blowout was coming when La. Tech went 80 yards in 11 plays and took over 5 minutes to do so. Up by 20, there was a feeling that it wasn’t going to be the Blue Raiders night. The offensive line started opening big holes and Mathers scored on a 37 yard pass for his second score of the evening.
Ty Lee would haul in the go ahead TD late in the 4th quarter, and 2 big pass deflections by Michael Minter stopped the Bulldogs in their track to give the Blue Raiders a 38-34 win.
It wasn’t a great night for the D who gave up 504 yards in the air. But, overall adjustments on both sides of the ball were enough to give MTSU the win.
The Blue Raiders head on the road to North Texas. UNT has a 2-2 record and is 1-0 in conference play after a double OT win over Rice 42-35.
